Just got word that the cookbook I designed has finally been printed. I was nearly finished when i first mentioned it way back in March, but a last minute reordering of the recipes required that I turn the design over to Chronicle’s in-house team for finalization. We also had some difficulties getting an approval on the cover design. The cover on Amazon is one of the twenty-or-so i created, but I know it was further revised by Chronicle after i turned over the files. Regardless, it was a nice change of pace from packaging design, and i can’t wait to get my hands on a copy this week!

From the Amazon description:

No reviews from the weekend. I had so much work to do this week that I didn’t want to even leave the house this weekend – opted for hot dogs over the firepit and ribeyes, asparagus and fennel on the grill.

I spent every night, after my day job, making about a million editorial revisions to a cookbook i’m laying out for Chronicle Books. It’s the first book i’ve done and the process is way different from what i’m used to. Lots of waiting punctuated by flurries of activity. Thankfully, i think the hardest part is over. Can’t wait for hit to hit the shelves in the fall–the photography is beautiful and i’m really pleased with the design. I’ll provide more detail and links once the book is publicly announced.

I just migrated the blog over to WordPress. Figured I’d do it now before I got too cozy at blogspot. I just dug their templates, the typography and the admin capabilities more.

I settled on the name and decided on a simple rebus for the header. I’ve been infatuated with helvetica lately. Big helvetica. Rent the movie.

Honestly, I’m not even sure I’m settled on the name of this thing. Maybe a few days to absorb and i’ll know for sure. I think if i can come up with a decent idea for a masthead, that’ll seal the deal.
I have plenty to work with. The fork in the rivers, the cityscape, utensil imagery. Maybe a highway sign? I’m a branding/packaging designer so i’m gonna obsess over this thing for the next couple days probably.
I don’t know that i care too much about the rest of the page. I may tweak the colors and type some more, but overall the template is adequate. I’ve got better things to worry about. And if it ain’t broke, don’t waste your life noodling things like a control freak.
